Volunteer
Racial, ethnic and class cleavages continue to shape the common experience of the average American. The Virginia Muslim Coalition provides Virginians Muslims and non-Muslims alike with engaging and dynamic efforts to transcend those barriers. Volunteering with VMCPA can be an extremely empowering experience for both the volunteers and those who the volunteers maybe honored to work with.

* Planting Opportunity at Swift Creek
With Friends of Chesterfield River Front
Make a Difference In the Environment
We have a work session on Saturday December 02, 2007 from 9:00a.m. 12:00 p.m. We will be planting trees into a riparian buffer areas at Swift Creek near Bailey Bridge Middle School and Manchester High School in Chesterfield County. More details on site will follow. These areas serve as pollutant removers filtering storm water runoff. We will need as much volunteers as we can for this project. Volunteers younger than 16 years need to have an adult with them. We will be providing gloves and necessary tools. Boots or sturdy shoes are recommended.
Great opportunity for family community service.
* Mentoring Children in Richmond public Schools
If you can volunteer as little as one hour of your time per week, then look no further. We are looking for dedicated volunteers who love mentoring elementary school children to assist with a reading improvement program at Broad Rock Elementary School in the City of Richmond (4615 Ferguson Lane, Richmond, VA 23234). The experience is very rewarding. You will be working with children who often do not have the luxury of an adult?s undivided attention and who really appreciate having a dedicated adult teach them how to improve their reading skills. A training will take place before starting to volunteer.
This effort is part of the Coalition?s involvement in the Micah Initiative, an interfaith mentoring program that uses volunteers from many different churches and synagogues. Please come forward and donate whatever little time you can afford all while remembering that God’s very first order given to us in the Quran was:? Read !”
